General Comments:

My aim is to provide prompt, thorough and comprehensive assessment and management of neurosurgical patients.  Patients need to be thoroughly assessed with accurate neurosurgical diagnosis and discussion of the potential benefits, expectations and risks of the relevant and appropriate treatment options.  I believe that it is important for a patient to fully understand his or her condition and the expectations from surgical treatment.  Surgical intervention carries risks and recurrence rates.  Every patient is different and consideration must be given to the individual circumstances of each patient.  I utilise a variety of diagnostic techniques including x-ray, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, nuclear medicine (nuclear bone scan and SPECT), myelography and blood tests.  In appropriate cases, the opinion of a specialist neurologist, which may include the need for EMG/Electrical studies, is obtained.  I believe that it is important for a patient to have a good understanding of the expectations post surgery including convalescence, rehabilitation and appropriate occupational domestic and recreational activities.
